West campus college alumni chapters:

Just recently, Karen Ramirez reached two milestones—she received a bachelor’s degree (her second) and became eligible for Social Security. At 62, Ramirez earned her degree in recreation and tourism management and plans to embark on a new career working for an art museum. Because of her high academic standing, wide array of volunteer and community activities and overcoming the adversity of having a stroke in 2004, she was chosen as the 2008 College of Human Services Outstanding Graduate.

First-generation college student Mitchell Bartholomew probably didn’t imagine he would become a brilliant scholar celebrated by his college. His academic success, participation in innovative research projects, and volunteer activities earned him the 2008 Outstanding Graduate Award from ASU’s New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. And his next stop? A top graduate program at the Ohio State University.

There may be a shortage of special education teachers in Arizona, but the Deer Valley Unified School District was lucky enough to land ASU’s College of Teacher Education and Leadership 2008 Outstanding Graduate Hannah Walters. She will teach special education at Village Meadows in the 4th-6th grade learning center starting this fall.

Sports and accounting students have a lot in common. Statistics and numbers can tell a story; you can bat a thousand, graduate with a 4.0 grade point average, or audit the books of a Fortune 500 company. Home runs, grades and annual reports count when it comes to keeping score. This story is about a sports fan and a successful accounting student who scored the title of 2008 Outstanding Graduate from ASU’s School of Global Management and Leadership.
